Experiential Learning

You’ll gain hands-on experience providing adults with compassionate, patient-centered primary care through 600 hours of clinical rotations in your own community. Under the supervision of an experienced mentor, you’ll learn how to take health histories, create treatment plans for chronic illness, and more.

AGPCNP rotations may take place in settings such as hospitals, private clinics, and community health centers. They must occur outside of your current place of employment.

In addition, you’ll visit our campus in Rochester, New York, for one pre-clinical immersion. Immersions are opportunities to practice critical nursing skills in a supervised environment, experience our state-of-the-art nursing facilities, and strengthen your connections with the Fisher community.

Prepare to Become an Adult/Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner at Fisher

As a primary care nurse practitioner who works with adults and the elderly, you will focus on health education, preventative care, and navigating challenges that adults encounter as they age.

In addition to addressing acute and chronic health challenges, you will guide patients as they establish living habits that will improve their quality of life. By working closely with patients to prevent illness, you will contribute to larger community health efforts as well.

AGPCNPs work in settings including:

  • Hospital inpatient units
  • Hospital outpatient clinics
  • Private physician practices

To become an adult/gerontology primary care nurse practitioner, you must earn an advanced nursing degree and pursue certification. Graduates of our online M.S. in Nursing program are prepared to pursue board certification and credentialing offered by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
